Pramoedya is particularly attentive on the prejudicial culture as shown in his magnificent literary works. This cultural heritage precludes any advancement. The anthology Cerita dari Blora (Stories from Blora) unveils his view on Javanese culture. It is very fascinating because most of the narrators in the stories are children. The phenomena happening to the society in Blora at the particular time are portrayed through the eyes of a child. The main characters are mostly underage female. They were tormented by the system of Javanese feudal culture. They were beaten by their husband or family, sold by their own family to a man way older than their own age to save their parents, put into the condition to sacrifice for family sake. All these are related to the Javenese value “to serve the country and the king”, meaning devote themselves to be a servant to the country and king. Pramoedya also shows the devotedness and faithfulness of Moslem people in this work. The narrator in “Sunat” (Circumcision) believes that he would be a true Moslem after being circumcised. In fact, even after the circumcision, his faith remains the same. His mother tells him to do the pilgrim to make his dream come true. His parents are not wealthy, so it is impossible for him to be a devoted Moslem. Regarding to this matter, Pramoedya argues that the faith of Moslem people is determined by the wealth of the family.
