This study focuses on the two perspectives of language, that is, one lays emphasis on communicative function and the other on discoursive function, are not only inseparable but also complimentarily in the context of literary language education and literature education. This article makes it clear that literature education should be able to improve communi- cative competence and developing cultural & literary competence. In addition, this study clears up the point of how to deal with language in literature education.For this, I analyze the stages of appreciating the late 1930's Baek Seok(백석)'s Poetry. In result of analyse, it is verified that the interpretation of the dialect as poetic language proceeds to the understanding of the family and the people's universe embodied in the language. In this procedure, the poet and a reader go through the process of communication in comprehending the content of poetry based on its language. Ultimately, it is explained that discourse becomes mutual understanding in consequence of appreciation of the world of poetry.
