The Effect of Social Skills Training with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) Kim, In-Hong1) 1) Associate Professor, Department of Nursing, Dongguk University Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of social skills training on the social skill, behavior problems and peer acceptance of children with ADHD. Method: A randomized controlled pre-post test design was used. The participants were 13 children who were ADHD attending community mental health center and elementary School in Pohang city. Six were assigned to the experimental group and 7 to the control group. The program consisted of 8 sessions of 60 minutes per session, 2days a week, for 4weeks. Instruments used for this study were the Social Skills Rating System(SSRS), Children's Behavior Check List-Korean version (K-CBCL) and peer acceptance. Result: The scores for co-operation and self-control increased significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group. Total behavior problems and attention problems decreased significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group. Conclusions: This study provides evidence for the potential and beneficial effects of social skills training in children who were ADHD. The program could be adequately used to improve social skills and problem behavior in ADHD. Key words : Inattention, Hyperactivity, Social skills
