The purpose of this study is to analyze how Kim Koo’s national independent unification efforts were implemented as well as impeded through the research methodology of literature analysis. The implementation process started from the idea of dialogue, peace and unified government. However, this process was met with difficulty when the two Koreas established separate sovereign governments. The implementation and hardships were triggered by both domestic politics and North Korean factors. History is an endless dialogue between the past and present. While Kim’s unification effort resulted in a failure but it cannot be concluded as a complete failure. In recent years, his unification efforts are gaining attention. The limit of this study is that there are no clear analysis of whether Kim’s national independent unification effort was based on realism that crossed the boundaries of left and right or idealism based on ideology. I suggest the future research theme to further expand to include research on Kim Koo as a thinker and a politician.
