As the division system takes longer, changes are being detected in the public opinion on the need for unification and the view of unification. Positive events such as the inter-Korean summit have spread hope for unification, and negative events such as North Korea"s nuclear test have fostered despair for unification. Korea"s unification policy has been proposed in three main approaches. At this point, however, some policies are considered outdated, and others are criticized for their lack of reality. This study analyzes the characteristics and limitations of existing Korea"s unification policies and examines what obstacles the new unification policy should overcome. Considering the public opinion that unification has turned into a matter of choice rather than a matter of necessity, it is emphasizing the need for a new policy to attract support from many people.
