Report Errors
As the THAAD deployment in South Korea is determined, the impact is spreading. South Korea, Japan and USA accept it, but China, North Korea and Russia oppose it strongly. South Korea and USA think it necessary means of protecting against North Korea’s nuclear threat, while China and Russia think it as New Asian strategy of USA in order to isolate China and Russia. The objective of this study is to analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the THAAD deployment in South Korea. The results are as follows: ➀ the strengths are the reinforcement of South Korean and USA alliance, and the expansion of South Korean and Japan relation, ➁ the weaknesses are the weakening of independent national defense of South Korea, the aggravation of South Korean and China relation, the aggravation of South and North Korea relation, and the intensification of conflicts within South Korea, ➂ the opportunities are the suppression of military provocation of North Korea, the enhancement of political leadership in North and South Korea relation, and the chance of participation in World and Asian strategies of USA, ➃ the threats are the economic retaliation of China, and the beginning of New Cold War era in East Asia.
