Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and China in 1992, the bilateral relations have developed rapidly and widely in various fields. In particular, the ROK-SINO relations in the Xi era has been evaluated as the highest level ever. Behind it, however, new conflicts have also emerged which are very serious in bilateral relations since the THAAD has been deployed in Korea. The THAAD crisis between Korea and China once again exposed the limitations of the ROK-SINO relations, which is not an independent but subordinated to the U.S.-China hegemonic competition. And it raised fundamental concerns about the future of strategic interests and mutual relations between the two countries. Therefore, this study poses the following three issues. First, was THAAD the direct cause of the conflict between Korea and China? Second, China’s main reason for opposing THAAD is that THAAD would harm China’s security interests, but why did China agree to a rapid recovery of the ROK-SINO relationship, even though the cause was not resolved? Third, can a complete restoration of the bilateral relations between Korea and China be realized?
