This study examined how 5-year-old children perceived the kindergarten classroom. Participants were 64 5-year-old children at private kindergartens in Cheonan, Korea. To collect data, the researchers asked children to draw a picture of a classroom, and then to talk what their pictures meant. Research findings are as follows. First, 5-year-olds perceived the classroom as a space created by teachers, a space divided by lines, and a space packed with things. Second, their classrooms have meant to them a space that exists for children themselves, a space where relations are developed, a space that has restrictions, and a space of ownership. Research findings imply that children have formed diverse meanings of their classrooms, which were different from adults’perspectives. To make a classroom a meaningful space for children, we should pay attention to their voices and accommodate their individual perspectives.
