The purpose of this study was to find a way to support the use of kindergarten spaces by exploring early childhood teachers" understanding of and alternatives to kindergarten spaces for children’s free play and activities. To this end, individual in-depth interviews were conducted with six public and private kindergarten teachers in Seoul. The detailed research results are as follows. First, early childhood teachers understood that the quality of children"s play varied depending on the kindergarten space. In addition, it was found that the characteristics of the space lead to the creativity of children, and that a new space enables free trials. Second, the alternatives suggested by teachers for the use of kindergarten spaces are derived to overcome stereotypes, communicate with members, ponder and grow together, improve the physical environment, support teaching materials, provide practical examples, and support assistants. Based on these results this study discusses practical support plans for space utilization of early childhood education institutions.
