For the purpose of this article, a comparative research on placenta chambers(Taesil) between Korea and Japan. Ancient Japanese placenta chambers can be divided into two different types. The first ones are God’s placenta chambers such as Amaterasu and Susanoo. The second ones are belong to humans that it can also divided into shrine types(Oobase, Oujin, Keitai, Machizane, Yositsune, Kamegawa) and tumulus types(Keitai, Yositsune). Most of the placenta chambers were belong to imperial family, but it wasn’t meant to be imperial’s exclusive.
The ancient Japanese placenta chambers can be explained in these words. First, The place was fixed upon the birthplace. Second, After constructing placenta chamber, a rock or a tree was planted. Third, When placenta was defied, it was related with birth and nurture and established as a folk beliefs. Lastly, When it developed into folk beliefs, shrine was built. Otherwise, tumulus was built to preserve placenta chamber.
These characteristic of Japanese placenta chambers are coincide in every detail with the Ancient Korean placenta chambers. Therefore, Ancient Korean and Japanese placenta chambers are considered as same cultural sphere. But, By comparing with Joseon royal placenta chamber, there are some differences are found as follows. Placenta chamber was a exclusive to the Joseon royal families. The place was not belongs to the birth place, it was determine by the geomantic principles and constructed with stone crypt. And it never turns into folk beliefs. Comparing with earlier type of placenta chamber such as Kim Yu shin’s placenta chamber it was a big shift.
