The purpose of this paper is to examine the names of six villages in Jeungpyeong-eup, Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. Among the six names under the examination, "Jeungpyeong-ri" is the name of a registered village, which is used as a name of village, town, and county. The remaining five are natural names of villages, with a mixture of native and hybrid names. The current study on the names of villages in Jeungpyeong-eup differs from Kim (2007, 2010a), whose aim was to investigate the names of villages in Cheongwon-gun [integrated with Cheongju-si in 2014]. Natural villages are generally composed of two components, namely former and latter elements. The former elements represents the naming flexibility of the place name while modifying the latter element. The latter elements, forming the basis of the name, represents the branch of the place name. In addition, the former elements are divided into internal and external criteria. Internal criteria are based on the internal situation or the condition of the land. On the other hand, External criteria are based on the external situation or the condition of the land.
