This study is designed to review the significance of Toegye Lee Hwang’s view of education with regard to the educational situation of modern times by identifying his outlook on education as the basis of his theory of principle and spirit. Toegye’s view of education shows the possibility that the desire of the individual for self-realization can be a shortcut to accomplish an ideal society and find social justice. It also indicates that only education which connects knowledge with conduct can lead the individuals in a community and their society as a whole to be organically united and to be incorporated harmoniously with moral rule. This thought illustraters the "substantial moral nature," what is called, "the spirit of reverence." This is why practicing the spirit of reverence through education should be emphasized more than before.
