Lee Byeng Ju"s Jirisan is an epic that reveals the total amount of Korean intellectuals in the 1930s and 1950s. In particular, it has a literary significance because it embodies female intellectuals who were unable to emerge as women under the influence of the patriarchal order. In the novel, the appearance of female intellectuals can be regarded as a device to acquire popularity through materialization of love, but Jirisan has suffered intense internal conflicts due to the gap between academic ideals and reality, It is argued that it was not the role of male intellectuals who contributed to the establishment of Korean society. Ha Yoon Hee"s claim to "no thought" symbolizes the self-divisive inner world and resignation of the modern woman in the late 1930"s, which were forced to feel limit due to the status system, colonial situation, and patriarchy. Kim Sook Ja, who absorbed Kwang Chang Hyeok"s knowledge and ideas more actively than Lee Gyu and Park Tae Young, learns and develops knowledge of socialist thought and criticism of the Communist Party. The establishment of Kim Sook Ja"s social mission to persuade Park Tae Young to give up the Communist Party and fail to do so leads to the development of the next generation of well-known scholars. The limitation of female intellectuals who can not escape from patriarchal order It shows. Just as Ha Yoon Hee and Kim Sook Ja appeared as love objects of Lee Gyu and Park Tae Young, major male intellectuals in the narrative, female Partisan intellectuals also appear on the stage of narrative in love with male Partisan intellectuals. However, Unlike Ha Yun-hee and Kim Sook Ja, female intellectuals were female Partisan intellectuals who came to social action in order to reconcile their thoughts and reality. They have a face of practical and popular intellectuals who appeared in the 1970s in that they stand on the side of the people rather than on the elitism.
