The Human beings in modern society experience various conflicts in social structures such as law, religion, education, culture and etc. Recently, the increase of single-person household and divorce emerges as the main issues of Korean social problems. The film, Nader And Simin, A Separation, directed by Asghar Farhadi who is an Iranian competent movie director, consists of social structural contradictions. To understand the topics of law, religion, gender, education, culture, hegemony, and responsibility, this study makes use of Antonio Gramsci’s theory. Gramsci who is famous for the word of hegemony reinterpreted Karl Marx’s material force and struggle and he insisted that labor class should comprehend the ideology of ruling class with hegemony by cultural, moral, and intellectual ways.
Therefore, this study analyses the film based on Gramsci’s theory as follows. Firstly, I figure out the negative points in law, religion, gender, education of this movie with Gramsci’s view. Secondly, the concept of Gramsci’s organic intellectuals is suggested as a solution. Finally, this article comes forth to Gramsci’s thought regarding human essence as fundamental cause in parallel with the characters’ individual responsibilities.
I hope that we would have a chance to review the structural problems of modern society thorough text interpretation which brings inherent messages of the film into real world.
