This study's purpose is to suggest the alternatives for designated lane systems at Highway with 4-lanes operationally-focused on safety or traffic accidents reduction. In Road-Traffic Acts, regard to current lane designated system, says that 1st lane for a passing vehicles, 2nd lane for a passenger cars, 3rd lane for a larger buses or for a freight cars with weight over 1.5t, and 4th lane for a constructive vehicles or for a special vehicles. Since this system permit a larger buses of a constructive vehicles to use all lanes except 1st lane, thus it can fade this lane designated system itself. So this study suggest the operational improvement alternatives of current lane designated system at Highway with 4-lane, especially in a viewpoint of traffic safety. The alternatives suggest that it should be stipulated that 1st lane for a passing vehicles, 2nd lane for a passenger cars, 3rd lane for a larger buses, and 4th lane for a fleight cars with weight over 1.5t or for a constructive vehicles or for a special vehicles. The effects of this alternatives are as follows: 1. Traffic accidents violate lane designation reduced from 39.3% to 22.5%, and the heavily injured accidents reduced from 65.6% to 52.9%. 2. The rate of heavily injured accidents according to the vehicles concerned also reduced all types of vehicles except accidents caused by buses to passenger cars. So this study can derive the alternative is more effective than current lane designation system. This study have some limitations: only accident based research, one year's accident data based, and not considering traffic volumes. Future study should consider these factors, especially traffic volumes: passenger cars, buses, and freight vehicles per lane, respectively.
