The purpose of this study was to identify how the conception of children and children’s verse genre consciousness of Park Mokwol representing our modern history of poetic literature were reflected in his children’s verse works. In order to thoroughly carry out analysis of children’s verses and children’s verse theories, intertextual reading of poems and children’s verses, this study examined his genre consciousness and conception of children appearing in Children’s Verse Class(1957), the World of Children’s Verse(1968), a collection of children’s verses, Wild Bird’s Eggs and Aquatic Bird’s Eggs(1962), etc., and explored how the author’s conception of children and genre consciousness were reflected in his works of Nan・Gita(1958), Cheong dam(1964), and Wild Bird’s Eggs and Aquatic Bird’s Eggs through comparative analysis.
From the results, it is confirmed that Park Mokwol perceived children and children’s verse genre with centering concepts of no objectives, fun, love, naivety, and goodness. Comparing poems and children’s verses he left between the late 1950s and the early 1960s, there are features of difficult figures due to family responsibilities in his poems but there was singing looking over the world in eyes and voices free from those responsibilities in his children’s verses. Supporting his family with lecture salaries and manuscript fees, Park Mokwol confronted economically difficult situations from time to time but he concentrated on constantly showing children’s ‘clear and beautiful minds’ in his works of children’s verses. In this manner, comparing his poems with his children’s verses, Park Mokwol’s angelic conception of children came into view the more distinctively. However, on the other hand, a point of contact between his poetry and children’s verses can be found in that Park Mokwol managed to keep a moderate poetic mind even in the world of his poetry while being on no bad terms with the society.
