Haebang is the first novel of Kim Dong-li. This work, a newspaper serial novel, dealt with oppositions of the left and right wing directly after Liberation. It caused him to dispute with peak Chul on novel and short-story. In this disputation, Kim claimed vulgarity was intervened in ideological choice of the left or right wing for authors According to my examination, vulgarity, however, was the strategy which authors selected, to conceal their lacks of social intelligence. For Kim`s work, vulgarity was not caused that he published his novel in serial form, but originated from the whole cognition itself of his own. Like this, many Korean authors used to attribute their ignorance of realities and thoughts to commerciality of journalism, which lights the way itself of existence of novels in history of Korean modern novels.
