This paper is intended to re-examine the educational entity of Nagasaki ‘Navy’ education(Denshu) on the basis of the record of participants and timetable. As a result of study, I summarized the substances of the Nagasaki education as follows.
First of all, previous studies have elucidated only education entity of a particular time. In this paper, we demonstrate that the timetable has been changed in accordance with the students, and change the timing of the instructor and the student level and demand. Point of interest from the educational content is that it has been learned in favor of the land battle techniques, such as training of Odaiba construction and the cannon and guns than learning warship driving skills. In other words, Nagasaki Denshu was not an educational institution that specializes in Naval Academy, but a learning field to learn both the Army and Navy technique.
And Nagasaki Denshu was the first attempt to implement a professional naval education for the establishment of full-fledged naval system. Nagasaki Denshu was not enough to train the naval officer to become the key to the founding of the Navy organization. But Nagasaki ‘Navy’ Denshu can be assessed as the first trial to prepare the shift from the coast protection emphasizing the dislodgement and defense on land to the modern navy in later generations, and as the first step of the reformation signaling the end of the early modern period and the opening of the modern era.
