This paper discusses the value of the Za Ling(Miscellaneous Statutes), the Sangzang Ling(Mourning and Burial Statutes) in the Tiansheng Statutes as historical sources, by examining the provisions which had been unknown before the discovery of the Tiansheng Statutes, the ones which were contradictory with the previous records or remove their uncertainties, and the ones which suggest significant changes of Chinese society between the Tang and Song Dynasties. Most of the provisions of the Sangzang Ling in the Tiansheng Statutes is succession to the ones in the Tang Statutes. In particular, it is difficult to find out the substantial differences between them in the provisions of the Mourning and Burial system of rites. However, this paper shows that we can find the differences of the Sangzang Ling in the Tang Statutes and the one in the Tiansheng Statutes in the provisions of the allowance grain and silk or cloth for the bereaved, the mourning ceremony, and the funeral rites performed by order of the emperor. The Za Ling fundamentally consists of miscellaneous and disorganized provisions, so the provisions of the Za Ling in the Tiansheng Statutes are not highly correlated with one another. The Za Ling in the Tiansheng that were not currently enforced during the Tiansheng reign of Emperor Renzong of Song are more historically significant and valuable than compared to the Current Za Ling in the Tiansheng Statutes in that the related provisions are not identified within the documents of the Tang and Song periods yet. The author focused on the changes from the Tiansheng Statutes of the Northern Song to the Qingyuan Statutes of the Southern Song both in this paper and annotated translation on the Sangzang Ling, Za Ling in the Tiansheng Statutes.
