The purpose of this study was to review and analyze the changes of dance education curriculum in elementary school from 1945 to present in Korea. The educational values of dance, the characteristes of dance education in elementary school, and changes of the contents of dance education in the revisions of school curriculum etc. were carefully reviewed though the related literatures for the theoretical basis. In main theme of this study, the periods of school curriculum revisions were divided into six periods by Ministery of Education publications, and then the contents of curriculum revisions of each periods were analyzed and compared in the view-point of dance education in elementary school The significant results from this study could be summarized as followings: First, in the period(1955-1963) of discipline-centered curriculum, the dance education programs were more scientifically consisted and focused the development of basic abilities for expression and creation of dance performance. Second, in the period(1963-1973) of life-centered curriculum, the contents of dance education programs were rationaly divided with the scientific basis, and rhythmic play was included as basic movement and expressive play was included as application movement. Third, in the period(1973-1982) of academy-centered curriculum, great amount of Korean traditional and collective dance activities were included as well as foreign folic dances in the dance education programs by the circumstances emphasizing nationalism and reunification of Korea at that time. Fourth, in the period(1982-1987) of human being-centered curriculum, `basic movement` activities were significantly emphasized for the development of potential motor abilities in the dance education programs. Fifth, in the period(1987-1992) emphasizing integrated curriculum; the both Korean and foreign folk dance activites were excluded in the dance education programs, and `basic movement` programs were more greatly emphasized. Sixth, in the another period(1992-present) emphasizing integrated curriculum, the extemporary performance methods with `basic movement` were introduced and more creative dance activities were emphasized in the dance education of elementary school.
