Jeong taehwa was a Jeongseung who played great role in mediate conflicts between political parties of three king’s period in 17th century. Because this period was filled with a lot of difficult problems to reorganize state system of Joseon dynasty, several political parties such as Sandang(山黨), Handang(漢黨) and Soron(少論), Noron(老論) asserted their various opinions to reorganize state system according to their own academic background and aim. In this process, there happened some political conflicts between parties, and between king and retainers. Jeong taehwa’s outstanding ability to mediate conflict between both sides emitted light in this point. Because he was born in distinguished historic family that produce many famous figures since 15th century, he inherited so many personal connections from his forefathers easily. In addition, his unique sociability helped him to make many personal connections since time of entering the government service. Most of all, his grandfather Jeong changyeon(鄭昌衍) who did not agree with decision that dethrone Inmokdaebi(仁穆大妃) in spite of his bukin(北人) identity gave Jeong taehwa political legitimacy as a mediator between parties. By support of Choe myeonggil(崔鳴吉), Jeong taehwa standed out among men for his brilliant ability in diplomatic matters with Qing. He rose to uuijeong in the King Injo’s last year, and maintained his status as Jeongseung for over 20 years without rise and fall. Although the fact that during these period, there were no severe political clash like King Sukjong’s reign comes from many elements, Jeong taehwa’s effort can not be disregarded.
