In this study, there is comparison between 〈the World of SIilver〉 of Korea, by Lee In-jik and 〈Black Tide〉, by Tokutomi Loka.
The focus of comparison is the description of historic men and the Author's discourse.
First of all, Lee In-jik's fiction, 〈the World of Silver〉(1908) was a literary record by describing Kim Ok-kyun who is the leader of 1884's coupdetat.
In the first part, by describing Kim Ok-kyun's political thoughts, the writer say the economic independence to the readers. That is to say, by Lee In-jik's interprets of Kim Ok-kyun's thoughts of the people's rights, Choi Byoung-do (main character) who fall under Kim Ok-kyun's thoughts try to be rich purposing to educate peoples being the excellent people.
In the latter, by describing Kim Ok-kyun's death, the writer says to the readers, “Kim's ideas finished, because to preserve lives is important, we Koreans must bear and forbear and Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty(1907) to replace Kim's ideas must be doing by way of political reform. Then we can prepare futures by new-education.”
Tokutomi Loka's novel, 〈Black Tide〉(1902) was a literary record which is describing Three Men (Saigo, Okubo, Kido) of Meiji-restoration(1967-1968).
By describing Three Men of Meiji-restoration, first of all, the writer Tokutomi Loka say the justification of the Meiji regime, civilization and enlightenment or heading for a progress, and ‘nationalism’ ideology claiming to protect the government by power. That is to say, Higasi(main character), a retainer of collapsed shogunate by the Meiji-restoration finally he admitted that he had been defeated by the Meiji regime.
But in last Seen, Higashi left the will to his son to overthrow the government and to win in political part. After all, criticizing on expansion of imperialism is the Author's discourse. Because Meiji government will to increase People's suffer in pre-Russo-Japanese War.
Consequently, Lee In-jik and Tokutomi Loka, two wanted to overcome doom and gloom of the future by ‘New- education’.
