In this study, there is comparison between 〈Silver World〉 , 'New-style novel' of Korea, by Lee In-jik and 〈Black Tide〉, 'Social-novel' of Japan, by Tokutomi Loka. The focus of comparison is how to express the criticism of political situation, the key motive of novels.
First of all, in 〈Black Tide〉 Higasi , a retainer of collapsed shogunate(Japan´s feudal government) by the Meiji-restoration in 1868, criticizes the corruption of Mage-regime and reforms that it makes the people more suffer, but finally he admitted that he had been defeated by the justification of the Meiji regime , civilization and enlightenment or heading for a progress, and "nationalism" ideology claiming to protect the government by power. At this point , the critical motive was described in a debating structure and there was a dispute between Higashi and Meiji-regime retainers. And there was the properties of conversation, term of Bakhtin. The description with no reversion, it ended with the will that Higashi left to stop the collapse of nation, saying "change the world with politic participation" . The will was not just for an enlightenment of reader politically ,but also had an dramatic effect by the empathy toward patriotism and fighting spirit of Higashi.
〈Silver World〉 was described in the time 5.6 years after the fail of Gab-sin-jung-byun, 1980s' Joseon. In the story rich man of Gang-reung Choi -byungdo was arrested illegally by tyranny and he urged that he was not guilty for judgment of not being filial to parents. That is a satire of the corrupted politic situation of the time. But there is no properties of conversation in the oppositional scene with a governor , there is only the voice of Choi-byungdo. Because the novelist had an apparent intend to enlighten the reader. That is, he thought despotic government ,with no impeachment system and corrupted official ruling over the people, must be refomed.
The cause of tyranny by local officials is ,after all, the corruption of central power class. Choi-byundo decided himself not to compromise with a governor but to be sacrificed.
He warned them the collapse of nation , and he died in the torture, and his death was described in the motive of sacrifice ceremony, in that motive a song was inserted in his death. The motive of sacrifice ceremonony brings the dramatic effects that makes the readers feel strong impression from death of Choi-byungdo and makes them feel the necessity of political reform.
