As new technologies such as smart phones and 3D TV have been most popular, augmented reality (AR) has become social and cultural paradigm. The AR has combined real environment and virtual environment as well as electronic information. At this point of view, this study would propose a contextual environment at new stage for explaining the research trends and tendencies on the AR.
This study would survey and analyze the leading works- related the AR contents considering the concept of context and ubiquitous computing environments. The findings are discussed in light of the AR contents in clarifying the contextual environment and the various relationships of AR contents such as object to user, user to user and object to object based on time and location tracking. The contextual environments (CEs) contents are classified into three categories of location & time-based CE, object-oriented CE, and user-oriented CEs. The AR contents for the future should evoke the contextual environment to take advantage of unlimited space, mobile access, ubiquity information, various displays, user's personalization, interactivity, sharing, collaboration and user making contents. in summary, we describe and suggest the process of the CEs generation considering the characteristics of the AR contents.
This research has not only creativity but also a convergence study clarifying the AR contexts with ubiquitous computing and generating the CEs. The proposed process of the CEs generation would be expected to deal with an important direction to keep pace with the technology as well as the humanities and social paradigms in an expanded AR.
