This essay is a study on the postcolonialism in the poems of Philippines and Korea during the period of colonial occupation. The outcomes of the study can be summarized in three things. First, the poets of both countries created the images of self-sacrificed patriots disregarding their lives for the love of nation. The entranced emotion for the love of nation in the poems of the Philippino poet, Jose Rizal and the poems of Sim, Hoon well account for the agony of life under the occupation and the depth of desire for the independence of country.
Second, the discourse of resistance against the ruling discourse of the ruling power radiates some effects by using the various and appropriate rhetoric. The Philippino poets coped with the strategies of colonizing consciousness of America using the ironies along with other techniques of expression. Korean poets also kept on pursuing the various forms of poems and the ways of rhetorics.
Third, the ambivalent contradicted emotion of the orientalism and desires of the westerners evoke the ambivalent responses from the colonized people. They are the overturning and the resistance through the obedient catching up and a fake imitation. The representative example is a poem of Juan Pastrana in which he put some pressure on the power of America by means of imitation. The poems of Youn, Dong-Ju show the unique structure in which the ambivalent values are combined into one.
