This thesis is the study on 〈Wanwolhyemaengyeon〉, a long family story in the Yi-dynasty. It will search how the history of the Ming-dynasty was accepted and transformed in 〈Wanwolhyemaengyeon〉. The time background of the novel is the era of the Emperor Yeongjong and the Emperor Kyeongjong in the Ming-dynasty. The history of the Ming-dynasty, which is closely connected with the story of the Jungs, is co-narrated in 〈Wanwolhyemaengyeon〉. Yeongjong is related with Jung In Sung, who hold a dominant position as the successor, and Kyeongjong is related with Jung In Joong.
Through researching how the Revolt of To-mok and the Revolt of Tal-mun are described in 〈Wanwolhyemaengyeon〉, we can easily find out successor-conflict between brothers which is the motive of the story.
I want to explain the reason the writer of 〈Wanwolhyemaengyeon〉 borrowed and used the history of the Ming-dynasty as the background of the novel. The writer might deeply understood the history of the Ming-dynasty and with proper dramatizing it, he wanted to explain the successor-conflict which was the main issue in the 18th century of the Yi-dynasty.
