Jo-seon Dynasty owns a long Chinese characters’ Writing history and after the Korean alphabets were created, the Jo-seon dynasty’s translators of Chinese novels were faced a kind of cultural dilemma. Not only due to the concept of cultural identity was divided into cultural self and cultural other by the changing of China’s Ming and Qing Dynasty, but also due to the invention of Korean alphabet―Hangul. The Korean alphabet’s invention aroused the concept of character stratum and affected cultural identity of writers that used the Korean alphabet. The double division of cultural identity which started in the invention of Korean alphabet affected the translation of Chinese novel during the Jo-seon Dynasty. This paper is try to explain the translators’ concept of cultural identity in translated the Chinese novel in Jo-seon Dynasty.
