Technological development has brought a great deal of innovation to Korea's English learning environment, which we can surmise has influenced Korean English learners in a variety of ways. To help English learners efficiently in accordance with such advancements, we need to examine whether their individual differences have also changed. Among various individual differences, this study focused on strategy use, aiming to analyze Korean English learners' strategy use and awareness diachronically. The questionnaires were administered to one middle school and one high school in both 2004 and 2009. Interestingly, while the overall profiles of strategy use and awareness did not change, only high school students in 2009 used strategies more often and were more aware of their strategies than the high school group in 2004, a result that was also supported by their answers to open-ended questions. Strategy awareness had a significantly high predictability for strategy use of all the participants in 2004, but in 2009 only high school students' strategy awareness had a significant predictability for strategy use. Based on the results of this diachronic analysis, teachers should use different approaches to help English learners in accordance with the host of changes that arise with technological advancements. Differences in the students in 2004 and 2009 are discussed, as are further potential research directions.
