There were lots of disputes on diverse topics in history textbooks in 2008. Although most of controversial topics were discussed through mass media, journals, workshops, and so on, there was no conclusion or result to find the consensus. Since new history textbooks will be published in near future, to analyze the controversial issues and to provide alternative ways should be needed.
This paper deals with several topics which have been discussed within political and civilian groups as well as academia. These controversies were originally raised by the New Right Group since 2004. However, among the topics, it is possible to divide several categories; 1) those which are not needed to discuss, given the fact that academia already has provided sufficient research, 2) those which disputes are going on and the conclusions are not reached, and 3) those which should be dealt with in history textbooks in spite of the fact that researches on the topics are not enough yet.
This paper also tries to provide new alternative to insert controversial topics in history textbooks. Although it is not easy to deal with disputable topics in history textbooks, to give evidences and different arguments on disputable topics might be appropriate to guide teachers and students by using very different ways from normal history description, this paper concludes.
