This research clarified the influence of Ivan Turgenev appearing in the poems of Shin Seog-jeong.
He is a representative pastoral poet. When reaching the mid-1930s, he discovered the political meaning contained in the nature of colonies. With it as the turning point, he was able to escape from the escapism-bound ‘country’ and understand the reality of ‘nature’. Afterwards, while he encountered the romantic incident called release and resolutely revealed his latent political consciousness, Shin participated in a literary world where the leftists led and produced poem pieces with left wing characteristics. Shin expressed his political consciousness while yearning for the appearance of Insarov or Bazarov. On the other hand, the characters in the novels of Turgenev have established their place.
At the end, his attempt failed because it was not able to be combined with ideologies, and due to this, he could not help but endure poetic confusion for a long time. Afterwards, Shin Seog-jeong removed left wing characteristics, triggered by the beginning life of the liberation period, and pursued harmony between nature and history by escaping from the attitude of disregarding specific reality. On the foundation of such movements, the reading experience of Turgenev which he contemplated during the passionate literary period is related.
