It is more than common to use multimedia contents and computer files such as powerpoint presentation files in classes as computers become more and more popular. Reading and interpreting paper text cannot appeal to students who live in an era of multimedia, especially for the classical literature which is averted as for the social usefulness.
This paper is originated from the agony of methods of reading and teaching chinese classical literature while watching student's learning abilities and interests during the chinese literature reading comprehension classes. I put common agonies of lecturers into writings, consider improvements upon the methods of teaching based on discussions with other scholars and propose a new approach for the most effective method of teaching. The conventional method of teaching using printed materials is avoided and a method of teaching utilizing hyper media contents is proposed. Based on my experiences of novel reading comprehension classes at Yonsei University, topics on textbooks, types of teaching materials(printed materials vs. multimedia materials), selection of languages(ancient literature vs. modern literature), and the intellectual levels of students are seriously considered in this study. In the concrete, the coverage of this research, classworks and homeworks in chinese classical literature reading comprehension calsses opened for two semesters are explained and an efficient method of teaching utilizing multimedia contents is also introduced.
The method of teaching utilizing multimedia contents develops the imagination and creativity of students and leads more active discussions among them voluntarily. As a conclusion, the change of media in literature education makes it possible to enjoy classical literature more richly and on the whole.
