This research is to explore the effect of emotional labor and organizational support on job stress, and the effect of self-monitoring on emotional labor of department stores' clothing salespeople. Survey data of 270 clothing salespeople working at 3 department stores in Daegu City were analyzed through the regression analysis and Pearson's correlations.
In result, self-monitoring of clothing salespeople positively affected emotional labor, and emotional labor also positively affected job stress. In addition, environmental support negatively affected job stress of the clothing salespeople whereas no relationship was found between personal support and job stress, and between educational support and job stress. The result emphasizes that the department store's clothing salespeople would have more job stress as they feel that they are engaged in more emotional labor. Also, clothing salespeople had a lower level of job stress when they worked in the better physical environment. Peer support and educational support were not factors reducing job stress of clothing salespeople. Based on results, valuable implications and strategies would be generated in order to reduce job stress of salespeople who are crucial in profit-making of the retail industry.
