This study is aimed to find a new ecological sense of values through Laozi view of nature. Under perception that the present ecologic destruction by environmental pollution is caused by supremacy and conquest pursued in western’s civilization, an alternative will be discovered in Laozi thought which has been a representation of oriental view of nature. The author will focus on Laozi view of nature that can overcome nowaday ecological crisis being suffered in earth.
Laozi criticized ‘a artificial’ attitude against a reality criticizing Confucianism and emphasized to maintain ‘a natural’ condition which is the origin of all creation. He suggested to follow morality of original nature getting out of artificial and pretending consciousness as an alternative to recover man’s social reality and distorted human nature. Lao-tzu lived a time of the law of the jungle stained by unceasing war and plunder, his philosophy and thinking apprehended a concept like morality and nature through ≪DaoDe Jing≫.
This Laozi’s sense of values involve a viewpoint of coexistence. Accordingly, Laozi thought that all things coexist through a standpoint of existentce’s absolute value than relative value, particular suggested a values of coexistence with man and nature. Finally, his coexistence ethics change man’s narrow minded and realize into ecological standpoint that man and nature live and exist together.
