This paper investigates the characteristics of the nature and self-recognition in Youn Dong Ju's poetry, by analyzing the relation between the nature and self-recognition aspect of the subject through symbolic mediation, and by examining the relation between ontological characteristics and the semantic structure of symbols.
While the studies on Youn Dong Ju's poetry have been restricted to semantic examinations of intuition, this paper aims to illuminate the polysemy of symbols in the unknown poetry by reconstructing equivocal semantic structure.
This thesis considers symbols of nature as material mediation, 'water' and 'wind'. Through these media, the self-examination in Youn Dong Ju's poetry is revealed as an indirect self-recognition. In this analysis, 'water' is related to the space and 'wind' is to the sense.
Therefore the symbols of nature, which Youn Dong Ju often utilized, are the mediation expressing the ontological characteristics of Youn Dong Ju's poetry.
