The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in preferred transformational leadership styles on the basis of Taekwondo trainees' characteristics including gender, grade and terms of training. In order to accomplish such purpose of study, a survey methodology was applied with the questionnaire developed by Bass(1998). The questionnaire consists of five dimensions such as idealized effect(traits), idealized effect(behaviors), inspired stimulation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. A total of 600 Taekwondo trainees were surveyed from ten academies and 554 usable questionnaires were analyzed using t-tests and ANOVA. Accordingly, following findings were derived from this study. First, statistical significance was found in the differences in idealized effect(traits and behaviors) and individualized consideration on the basis of gender of participants. Second, there were significant differences in intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration on the basis of grade. Finally, significant differences were found in all dimensions of transformational leadership styles except idealized effect(traits) on the basis of terms of training.
