The purpose of this study is to explicate the change of the Qi concept and the relation between Qi and health.
In the ancient Chin era, Qi was referred to something that visibly or invisibly exists when any living thing breathes in or out in the vast universe.
In Taoism, Qi was regarded as the fundamental factor which forms all the creatures including humans, while in Confucianism Qi is not only something natural which heaven, earth, objects, and humans share but also something vital and energetic which lies inside of the human body.
In the era of the Chin and Han dynasties, the existing concept of Qi was applied to the medical field which is found in the Yellow Emperor Nei Jing. As a result, a new concept of Qi was established focused on "physiological Qi'such as the composition of the human body, the rule of metabolism, causes of diseases and their treatments, and care of health. They believed that physiological Qi is the physical foundation of the human life, and that when it is in balance a humanwill stay healthy, while it loses its balance he will get sick.
During the Sui and the Tang dynasties, "Internal Elixir"training was introduced, which adopted "fetal breathing" of Taoism, sending out the deteriorated and getting in the fresh through respiration, circulating Qi to improve immunity and vitality which is expected to results in longevity. They sought the normal circulation of Qi, using "smaill Qi circulation" which penetrates conception and governing vessels and "whole body circulation" which penetrates twelve meridians based on the acupuncture theories.
