The purpose of this study is to research the figure and roles of the Hades in kososul(고소설) ; Mok leon chon(목련전) and Namnyumbuju ji(남염부주지), Wang-rang Panhon chon(왕랑반혼전), Dang Taejong chon(당태종전), Samsa Hoengip Hwangch’on ki(삼사횡입황천기), Je mamu chon(제마무전), Yu-ssi chon(유씨전), Yi kyeryong chon(이계룡전), Mok siryong chon(목시룡전).
First of all, a hero’s incoming and outgoing from the hades is configurationed by procedures and inducements in every work. And yet, space idea of the Hades is not clearly presentationed in the heavens or underground.
Secondarily, the concrete shape is almost configurationed by comparing the hell with paradise, and it carved the hell in relief, then the shape of the hell is showed in several the scriptures of Buddhism and Taoism. However, by the author’s consciousness and experience in the world, there existed variation in the configuration of the hell.
The other side, roles of the Hades is divided in the four category; punishment and reward, satire and humour, intensive presentation of the theme, fantasy. Punishment and reward is most universal in the roles of the Hades. Satire and humour contributes to assault or jest the social contradictions and unreasonableness. lastly, Fantasy offers mental satisfaction or pleasant sensation.
