The purpose of this study is to analyze economic impacts of public infrastructure investments on national economies. The primary methodology is an Computable General Equilibrium(CGE) Model which is composed of supply, demand and price modules.
An increase of the public infrastructure investment by 1 trillion Won in 1993 is etimated to generate GDP and export growth by 1.6636 trillion Won and 0.4689 billion U.S. Dollar respectively during 1993-1997. The transportation cost ratio of manufacturing product price can be reduced by 0.069% point on average with an improvement of welfare level by 0.1228 in the 5 year period as well. However high price inflation in 1993 is emerged as a negative factor to frustrate economic benefit of public infrastructure investments. On the other hand, the procurement of public investment goods through pure taxation is required so as to ameliorate the economic burden of inflation with maintaining the moderate economic growth.
