It has been politically claimed that the regional investment policy favorable of the Capital regional economy should be reappraised in order to reduce social costs and improve an efficiency of land use. Economic effects of this socio - political demand can be examined in terms of national development and regional equity.
The purpose of this research is to explore the impacts of changes in regional investment patterns on the national growth and the interregional economic disparity. The primary methodology is an Interregional Computable General Equilibrium(ICGE) Model to shed light on the interregional economic interactions of the Capital region with the Rest of Country(ROC) regarding quantities of regional goods and their prices. This model could scrutinize the behavior of regional macroeconomic variables such as employment, income, consumption, population and production when an external shock takes place.
This study finds that the regional investment policy emphasizing on development of the Capital region's economy leads to a drop of the national economic growth in the medium - long runs, despite the enhancement of the GDP level in the short run. In the short run, due to a rise of market price of the Capital region's product, the value added price tends to go up, pushing the GDP per capita upward. But in the medium -long runs, the increase in the ROC product price reduces the value added price of the Capital regional product, which causes the growth rate of the national economy to decline.
