This study focuses on assessing investment effect of transportation and telecommunication on regional productivity and interregional industrial linkages of Seoul Metropolitan Area and rest of the country in Korea. The primary methodology is a simulation on a Regional Equilibrium Model which integrates Investment Effect Analysis Model and Interregional Input Output Model of two regions.
The investment on transportation have more favorable effects on regional industrial productivity than on telecommunication. In particular, marginal productivity of transportation investments is higher in rest of the country than the Seoul Metropolitan Area. An increase of the transportation and telecommunication investments in rest of the country can result in higher economic growth, reducing an regional disparity.
