The purpose of this thesis is to deduce that the Chinese-speaking Korean learners form inter-language in the insufficient study of the various uses of -은/는, by analysing the statistics of corpus in which the Chinese-speaking Korean learners use 보조사 -은/는 incorrectly. This thesis pays special attention to -은/는 amongst other difficulties which the most Korean learners experience in the usage of postposition, because the Chinese-speaking learners show the highest frequency of the incorrect usage. The reason of such phenomenon would be that proper knowledge of grammar has not been provided to the learners, even though those are used with the high frequency and the various usage. Therefore, this thesis presents the usage and restriction of -은/는 to teach in the order of complexity in the presented gramatical unit. The main usage presented in this theses is not to teach in sequence, but to teach repeatedly and spirally as the complexity of grammar level grows from simple sentense to complex/embedded sentense, from sentense to discourse.
The urgent problem in the general Korean grammar teaching appears that we establish each grammar item and build the process of grammar systematically and consecutively. To arrive at this aim, the premise should be the need analysis of the learners and teachers as well as the cumulation of the evaluation for the existing learners, building of the sufficient examples of the proper corpus to set the priority order of the expressive items, and building of the sufficient examples of the improper corpus set the degree of difficulty. The limitations of this thesis also lie on the facts that the improper corpus in the usage of -은/는 were not secured so much as the analysis is meaningful in the view of science of statistics and furthermore, the secured examples were mostly picked up from the written language. As -은/는 has more cases in the pragmatical uses than other postpositions have, the construction of data from the spoken language is urgently needed.
In regard of the basic meaning of -은/는, the simplification to the expression of old information and new one will be one of the good methods, by comparing it with -이/가. If the characteristics of Korean is also considered, which are the duplication of cognitive possibility as a speaker and listener, and listener-oriented, the teaching based on the difference in the cultures will be possible. The detailed teaching program will be followed with a further thesis.
