This study has examined the tea drinking of people of good ancestry early in Chosun Dynasty with focusing on the "Ode of Tea"(writings on the song of tea), the first book on tea in our country, written by Lee Mok.
The spirit of people of good ancestry in Chosun Dynasty(Ancient Korea) respected the righteousness inwardly and the reverence outwardly. It also regarded both the cultivation and self-examination very highly in daily life.
The contents of the "Ode of Tea" are as follows:
1) Motive of writing and Introduction
2) Kinds of Tea
3) Key Producing Area for Tea
4) Landscape of Tea Field
5) 5 Merits and 6 Virtues of Tea
6) Boundary between Reality and Truth
As the true nature of tea and the spirit of people of good ancestry are in contact, it can be forecast that the relation between the daily life of people of good ancestry and the tea has been very close.
As tea is a matter having its own spirit at the same time, it also has high value as a beverage of self examination in the daily life of the moderns.
