Mankind gave birth to similar myths, fairy tales, images for all times and spaces. There are really some differences in each ages and countries. However, there exist the sameness through all the differences. Carl Gustav Jung(1875~1961) explained such sameness and differences in the world of the imaginary with the concepts of archetype and symbol. A certain imaginary is different in the level of symbol, but same in the level of archetype.
After the inquiry of the prehistory of the archetype developed in the Platonic context, we introduced the jungian concept of archetype which have an important effect upon the contemporary theory of imagination. We discussed then how the post-jungian scholars-for exemple, historian of religions Mircea Eliade(1907~1986), philosopher of imagination Gaston Bachelard(1984~1962), literary critic Northrop Frye(1912~1991), anthropologist Gilbert Durand(1921~)- accepted the concept of archetype in their research realm.
