Paulo Freire is considered as one of the most influential educators in the twentieth century with his informal education for the oppressed. He criticized the so-called 'banking education'domesticating people to conform to the existing structure and maintain the status quo. Three aspects of histheory are significant and meaningful for the Korean Church education: (1) emphasis on liberation through self-discovery, self-expression, self-determination and self-development; (2) problem-posing dialogue which emphasizes active and inquiring education rather than banking education; (3) authentic education through the process of praxis; reflection―action―further reflection. From the evangelical point of view, he does not use the Scripture as the prime source to build up his theory even if the contribution of humanization in the oppressed situation is significant.
