The general education of Christian higher education is at stake now. The purpose of this study is to give a suggestion for the improvement of general education curriculum of Christian higher education.
The researcher studied the definition of general education, the trends of American general education and literature review. of studies of Korean general education and analyzed the general education of Korean Christian higher institutions. Based on the research and analysis, the purpose of general education of Christian higher education, the principles of constructing general education curriculum, the subjects of Christian liberal education were suggested.
The aims of Christian general education are acquirement of broad knowledge, development of critical thinking, enhancement of moral and ethical senses, fostering civic responsibility, and cultivation of Christian mind.
Some principles of constructing the general curriculum are also suggested: coherence, interdisciplinary approach, real world experience, and use of core curriculum. Further studies should include the role of professors of Christian higher education and the specific contents of curriculum.
