This research investigates Freire's educational view in relation to Christian adult education. Freire's main themes of education is introduced in an attempt to integrate his concepts with the practice of Christian adult education.
The terms including emancipation, banking concept of education, conscientization, problem posing and praxis are discussed related to contemporary educational practice and structure. Among key concepts of Freire, the potentiality of learners, the use of dialogue, praxis-oriented education are focused in an effort to foster the change of Christian adult education in Korea. Especially the necessity of paradigm shift on view of adult learners is strongly insisted.
The criticism of Freire's view of education is introduced in light of the theological and biblical perspectives. The exclusively focus on the present while devaluing the past was one weakness of Freire. He was also criticized for holding too much romantic, humanistic view of human potentiality. Most significantly, the danger of Freire's perspectives is the absence of the work of the Holy Spirit in education.
