The problem of Dangunmyth has been discussed for several decades. If we view it as religion, We can ignore the importance of history of ancient Chosun. This argument will be the same as China and Japan. However if we see the Dangunmyth in terms of historical importance, it will be viewed as dictatorship that includes divine role. There is another view such as combining the character of religion and history of Dangunmyth. It brings into fundamental questions: national predominance and radical totalitarianism.
In this essay, I will point out the problem of those three views mentioned above and suggest a method. My method is based on "historical-critical methodology". Many scholars have build up their own methods of study in Dangunmyth specialized historical and religious approach. But we have still missed to approach Dangunmyth as a Hexahedron in a whole text, for example chinese classics, scripture, contains history, philosophy, literature, religion ethics and folklore.
Dangunmyth characterized contents of tradition of an outlook on the God-tradition, tradition of humanization and tradition of the rule of right(the principles of royalty). My study is focussed on more religious aspect than historical aspect of Dangunmyth. The outcome(result) is clear that Dangunmyth was created earlier than Chinese Religion. Already many scholars have tried to prove that especially in "historical changing of knowledge Dangun's research of literal tradition Dangun's myth in period of Koryeo". Ancient history of Dangunmyth and literal tradition in period of ancient Chosun belongs to a product before Ki-Ja Chosun, and then we have the literal tradition as additions formed in period of Koryeo(No, Tae-Don and Kang, Don-Ku).
Study on Dangunmyth in South-North Korea: North Korea mixed mythconcetion up conception of legend and of narratives and treats as same conception. North Korea emphasizes part of history, and denies the Being of Ki-Ja Chosun before the Dangun Chosun. But they look part of Hwanin as a fictive addition.
Instead of that, they decline towards the divine human and divine history. Since Il-Yeon interpreted Dangunmyth historically and literally, a tradition of interpretation has been formed. After that time Choi, Nam-Sun developed Dangunmyth scientifically in view point of history, literature, religion and philosophy. In a word a ancient history was described mythically.
Choi, Nam-Sun’s approach made me possible to develope historical- critical interpretation in case of Dangunmyth. For example, there are six cases.
1. Text Criticism. 2. Literal Traditions Criticism. 3. Linguistic Analysis. 4. Form and Gattungs-Criticism. 5. Traditions Criticism. 6. Theological Interpretation.
I will explore my approach based on same critical contents below:
Comparing text of Dangunmyth with the text of the Old Testament. We will compare and interpret view point of Heaven-God, Symbol of bear and tiger, message of Hwan-Woong with Woong-Nyeo, Motive of Mountain-God, Motive Immanuel.
Finally I will try combine spirit of Dangunmyth with nationalism(Hanism). Because it is principle of universalism and subject pro the world.
