The 21century is called the era of culture. On all parts of human life, the culture is emphasized and the culture-oriented thinking is prevalent on the all kinds of decision making and strategy setting.
So far, many policies concerned with economy and development have been overestimated the volume and speed. Therefore, there have been many problems and limitations, such as , pollution, environment contamination and IMF crisis in this country. In terms of these problems, Korean ports are not free from these evil practices and limitations. In this time, we must think about the new paradigm of port development.
Port culture which is becoming one of important factors of port shall be included in new human needs such as, quality of life, leisure, tourism, and environment.
In this paper, the necessity of port culture introduction, its concept and its components are described and underlined the preliminary harmony of the development plan of port and city. This paper suggested the impacts of port culture introduction and proposed 7 directions of port culture in the case of Inchon port.
