Physical distribution activities are very important for the competitive conditions of a nation and its companies. In Korea, shipping and ports transport almost 99.7% of cargo Traffic of foreign Trade. Port is the critical area to enbance the competitive power of this country and the firms. And the effective establishment and efficient operation of its information system is very significant for the speedy and correct port operation and the rationalization of the logistics system. In this paper, the current situation and conditions of port information system are investigated and some problems which are included in the port operation system are explained. Some directions and countermeasures which are useful and significant to increase the efficiency of port operation and logistics system are suggested. In 21st Century, information based society has come and all sectors of human activities are influenced by the conditions and level of the information system. To strengthen port logistics competitive power and to enbance the efficiency and productivity, the integration and networking of various logistical information systems, such as KL -net, KT -net Port-MIS, KORIS and so on, are necessary.
