Information service of port logistics generally involves the port administration service concerned with port development, port operation, and all activities which related with principal port activities.
The characteristics of activities of port logistics, involving inbound and outbound navigation of vessels, C.I.Q service, EDI and logistical information network, can be summarized as their complexity and successiveness.
In this paper, general conditions of port logistics, especially concerned with C.I.Q service and EDI system, were explained. And many problems and weak points of port logistics in Korea are investigated and analyzed.
To improve and strengthen the effectiveness of port logistics and their activities, many counter- measures and amelioration schemes are suggested. The simplification and dereglation of port administration process are necessary to increase the productivity of port logistics. And the imporvement of C.I.Q service and introduction of total logistical network, using EDI and other advanced technology, are very critical to enhance the port effectiveness and to reduce the port related cost.
